ECO 746 International Finance

One of the hallmarks of globalization has been the development of a global financial architecture with a very wide reach. The object of this course will be to study the dynamics of this financial system. To this end, we will first probe its historical inception and gradual development, eventually coming to study the system in its current form. We will then analyze the way it functions – the way it is enmeshed with national economies, its internal logic and dynamics, and how it sometimes experiences crises. In the process, we will discuss the working of various institutions that are central to the global financial architecture, such as central banks, private funds, private banks, etc.
